GTN Expands Business Areas in South Germany

For the engineers and geologists of Geothermie Neubrandenburg GmbH (GTN, success is not waiting to be picked up on the streets, but rather underneath. The planning office which is going to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its foundation this year, has specialized in the development and utilization of geothermal heat and thermal waters form heating, electricity generation and balneological applications. Numerous geothermal plants have been planned, designed, built, and operated under the overall control of the 20 highly qualified staff members. Surely, the complete planning of the energy supply to the Reichstag building, the seat of the German Parliament in Berlin, and all adjacent parliament buildingsd which included innovative geothermal solutions, has been an important milestone.

Since May 2007, GTN runs an office also in Bavaria and has been able to contribute its know-how in numerous geothermal projects – among others, At Unterhaching, Kirchstockach, Sauerlach, and Dürrnhaar.

This was a reason for GTN to expand its capacities in South Germany. It is a particular joy to us that we will move into our new office premises on 2 August 2011 jointly with Geothermie Unterhaching GmbH & Co KG.

Both companies which have been coo0perating for many years profit from the spatial merger already. From the very beginning, the GTN team has been assisting Geothermie Unterhaching GmbH & Co KG as consultants and planners in all thermal water-related issues. The Unterhaching geothermal plant belongs to the most innovative ones in Germany.

Continuously, both companies are setting standards for deep geothermal energy use also in research projects.

Quite a number of new projects are under preparation and planning with GTN participating actively. Moreover, GTN is developing a regional simulation model in an integrated project by order of LIAG Hannover which includes all existing geothermal plants exploiting the Malm aquifer in the Greater Munich Area and those which are under construction there. The problem of their mutual interference shall be investigated, and the use of this geothermal resource shall be optimized subsequently.

GTN, having its main office in the Center of Competence of Geothermal Energy and Brine Uses at Neubrandenburg, is very active also on an international scale. So, GTN Latin America (GTN LA) was founded as a branch at Santiago de Chile in 2009 to service the rapidly growing Latin American geothermal market.

The two Managing Directors Peter Seibt and Frank Kabus developed a series of visions for the increasing use of geothermal energy in the future, in which the idea of establishing Unterhaching as the south German conter of geothermal competence plays a particular role.
